Developer Q&A Round 2 Part 3

2009-11-02 16:07:47

In the third and final Q&A from this round of questions, we’re bringing you a bumper XXL bundle of questions!

  • Will you introduce "Fog of War" in PVP maps?

No, we won’t be introducing Fog of War as it does not fit the game play. Cards can be played out anywhere in the map, so a different type of scouting is required. You have to interpret what your opponent plays and react accordingly, that’s one of the key features of BattleForge! With Fog of War, that would no longer be possible.

  • Are there going to be restricted PvP modes like: P4F cards only, Starter cards only, Twilight only or Commons and Uncommons only?

BattleForge itself focuses on the collection and tome rankings and we’re currently not considering adding more formats to it. However, tournaments organized by other parties, e.g. the ESL, can have their own restrictions.

  • Will there be new ways to make use of gold?

    Not for now.

  • Will you introduce new formation commands for units like square, arrow, circle or line formation?

In BattleForge, the formation of a squad is defined by the squad itself – every squad is special. It is necessary to keep the squads and their stance distinguishable, therefore we do not plan to change this.

  • Will we get insane difficulty for PvE?

Our current statistics indicate that Expert is enough of a challenge for now.

  • Will we be able to buy a custom Tome, consisting of whatever number of boosters from whatever card editions we choose?

No, the tome mode will focus on one standardized kind of tome.

  • When will you be introducing the Clan/Guilds system and will Clan/Guild members be able to chat across servers?

We are aware of this feature request, but we have to balance it against other points in our backlog. Chat (and online notification across servers) rates below a number of other features, sorry.

Alright, that’s it for this round of the Q&A. We hope you enjoyed the show and are already looking forward to round 3. In the meantime, head over to the forums and ask your questions there; our Community Team will either answer them directly or forward them for you.
