Rafael Santamarta - Quality Assurance

How did you get into the industry?
Once upon a time I had a job as an assistant producer in a film company that I didn’t quite like. So I quit the job to start fulfilling my dreams and hopes in life. Unfortunately I didn’t exactly know what those dreams were at the time, so I called a couple of friends and stalked some HR departments. Four job interviews later I was finally working as a QA tester for EA Madrid. This turned out to be the beginning of a great friendship.
What exactly do you do every day?
I acquire and organise various types of game quality feedback, to inform and support different company departments during game development. At the QA department we have to make sure that our clients will have the best possible game experience, that they get to love the game as much as we expect them to, so we have to be able to analyse it with a neutral perspective and, on top of that, be able to create productive criticism.
What do you like most about your job?
Being able to make a difference.
What do you like least about your job?
Those days when things just won’t work regardless of your effort and motivation.
Whats your favorite game or game franchise?
Littlest Pet Shop?
What else do you do for fun besides gaming
I am a professional three-headed monkeys hunter.
What do you recomment to people who want to get a job in the gaming industry?
Study hard, learn languages, try to get into any department that you might be interested in. If is meant to be: you will get it, if not: try harder.
What foods sorround you while you are gaming?
There is an expired Coco Pops box standing by my screen since god knows when. I am saving them for when one of our testers does not behave.
What is the most embarrasing/memorable thing you had to do for/at your job?
Had to sing “One” from Metallica on a big Rock Band stage in front of hundreds of hysteric game fanatics at Game Convention Leipzig, so that my work colleagues could have their “band”.
If you could be a gaming character, who or what would you be?
Guybrush Threepwood. (Has a lovely haircut)
